The ice really has this blue color, which seems to stem from the compact structure of ice crystals due to the pressure, and is enhanced by the cloudy sky. It is dangerous to approach the glacier front more close than a few dozen meters, for the large pressure of the glacier may cause the fjord ice in front to melt at some places.
